Go live!

I am going to put the index page in place tomorrow. Woohoo. As I still have a zillion lay-out things I have to fix though, I don't think we should "advertise" as yet. To anyone who stumbles past, welcome and mind the wet paint lol. I think we could be ready to start submitting the site to search engines etc though, say by the 7th? It always takes a while for them to send in the bots to index anyhow. I put another seven galleries up in the photo section. With lots of Screen Caps! If you thought The caps I made of The Last Detail were "girl caps" just wait till you get a load of some of these. LMAO. We're making progress!

Audio Clip of Easy Rider Q & A!!!

There aren't enough exclamation marks for this! I love MoMA! I love Jack Nicholson! I love everyone! I found a clip from 1969 in the MoMA archives entitled "Ciineprobe: An Evening with Jack Nicholson". Bless them and their archive! The clip is just over 20 minutes long and I had to download a player I'd never heard of before to listen to it, but that only took a minute, it's a small file and it was soooooo worth it. It's a really interesting clip. The questions are a little hard to hear but Jack's answers are very clear and it's so interesting to hear him talk about Easy Rider! I love his voice and he's so polite and sweet! Awwww this really made my day. We'll have to add this to extras when we are ready to do that part of the site!

Sara - blissing out.

Magazine Gallery

I've just added the Magazine Gallery to the photos page. That means the photo section is close to complete. Well closer! There are some beautiful (I would say hot but I don't want Tom to have a melt down) pics of Jack from L'uomo Vogue amongst others. Italians are so refreshingly honest about lust and they're Catholics go figure! Maybe they never translated the stuff about impure thoughts into Italian? Seems unlikely with the pope just up the block and all. Anyway check out the gallery and feel free to have a few impure thoughts of your own.

Jack Robinson

Sara Here. I found a wonderful website the Jack Robinson Archive with lots of fabulous photos of Jack Nicholson taken in January 1970. Jack Robinson was a very successful and highly-regarded photographer and he has really captured many of Jack Nicholson's wonderful expressions as well as the Million dollar smile! You can view the photos here and/or visit the site.

P.S Tom I loved those photoshop pics especially "Jackie uh-oh". Too funny.

You don't know Jack!

I came across this photoshop competition called "Jack is everywhere". People were asked to create pictures to show that Jack is everywhere and the results were really funny in some cases! I have created a slideshow called "You don't know Jack" and put the best of the entries in there. If the slideshow is too fast or slow for you, don't forget you can stop it and manually navigate through it. Enjoy!

More articles!

I have 25 more articles mostly from the New York Times and Time Magazine to add. There is an interview from 1974 amongst the New York Times pieces, that is really interesting. I've read a lot of the interviews now and I'm really struck by how open Jack was. Now days most actors/actresses etc have a small army of people defining what questions can be asked and all the answers sound so homogenised. Celebrity interviews have become the equivalent of a Miss Universe pageant with them all giving answers that just sound like variations on "I want world peace".

In the New York Times article Jack is asked if anything is off-limits and he simply replied "Nothings out of bounds, you give it your best shot and I'll give it mine". In the course of the interview it is also made very clear that he has been smoking Pot. Now days I suspect that a small flock of suits would whirl into damage-control at the mere hint their star client is a recreational drug-user appearing in the NY Times.

Is this because of Political Correctness? Is it turning us into people who are scared to be honest with each other about anything. We expect the world to be so intolerant of any behaviour that strays outside of the strict guidelines? Maybe we all need image management now, just to survive.

Sorry, I'm rambling. I just wanted to say it was freakin' awesome to read an honest unvarnished interview. Oh and yeah the 1st is cool by me too. -- Tom

The Passenger

I think aiming for the first is fine! Let's do it.

On another note - completely unrelated to building the site. I finally caved in and rented The Passenger on Video today. My last shred of optimism that I might find a way to buy it on DVD, had gone the way of the dodo and I accepted begrudgingly that rather than watch it on my parent's whizz bang, fancy dancy, cool and groovy, home entertainment thingummy whatsit, I would have to slum it with the VCR.

Anyway, I'm so glad I did. I loved it. It was very sparse comparatively speaking (hmmm I know what I mean but I don't know how to say it) and beatifully shot. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out. Jack gives a really great performance as a jaded and disillusioned reporter. The famous closing tracking shot is breath taking.

Got Milk?

Glad you like the lay-out Tom Seriously, I can change anything you want changed! I am making screen caps for the films that we have not been able to find many stills for. I have put up the first of them in The Last Detail Gallery let me know what you think!

I think we could aim to actually put the site online by the 1st? What do you think? We will have the articles and photo sections finished by then and we can clear out this chit chat and put up some real news lol We can build the other parts of the site later but I think that would be enough or is that too much pressure!!?

A pictures worth a thousand words!

The layout is looking good Sara! That, and my self-preservation instinct is fully operational. I have been working on putting together the photogalleries. I have found a lot of photos of Jack from the set of The Departed so I will post those and make the photo section active from tomorrow. I am looking forward to The Departed more than any other movie due in 2006. The combination of Martin Scorcese and Jack is a pretty exciting prospect. Good Fellas rocked and as Jack is playing an Irish Mob Boss - Costello, well It's going to be interesting to see the finished result! The word is that Jack has finished filming his scenes now and as we build the site, we will putting up more news about The Departed. -- Tom

Articles for Africa

Sara here. I've just added 85 articles to the article page! They date back to 1985. I have some more but I need to scan them and for right now the technology is not co-operating! I have tried to find an interesting range of articles and I've tried to stay clear of all the gossipy tabloid type stuff but it is hard because even in the better quality interviews - the same old questions usually pop up. Researching out the articles was interesting because I discovered two things.

1. The press who cover entertainment usually don't do there homework and ask incredibly inane questions - like "are your eyebrows insured?" which gave me a good laugh! I thought Jack Nicholson showed tremendous patience in replying that they weren't, because he could work without them! I mean fercrissakes! rofl.

2. There is actually only one person in the whole world writing the news and once he or she is done everybody else just cribs LOL Seriously, someone writes "Jack is back" for example, and then every single magazine and newspaper from Newsweek to Variety to the LA Times etc etc will all say the same thing. Back from what? You might ask. Well not really back - as in he was gone - no, it's just back rhymes with Jack. It's hard to comprehend the wit and intelligence involved. *cough*morons*cough*

In fact I think I'll have a cup of tea and a kick back

Welcome!

Hi and welcome to Sara and Tom's website! We are big fans of Jack Nicholson. He's our favourite actor and we wanted to create a fansite as a tribute to his incredible career. We hope there will be something of interest here, for all Jack fans, once we are done!. This is our first website, so bear with us! We are all taking a web design class and this is our project. We thought it would be great to make a site for real instead of just a practice one so over the next couple of months hopefully this will take shape (if we can ever figure out what we are doing). Thanks for dropping by. If you do have any articles, pictures etc you would like to share please e-mail us at randlep@jacknicholson.org --Tom
