American Cinematographer

Jack Nicholson American Cinematographer Cover Jack Nicholson is on the cover of October's American Cinematographer. The magazine inludes a feature on The Departed in which Michael Ballhaus and Andy Day discuss their work on the project. If you are interested to know how certain shots were lit or what lens was used etc, this article has all the details. Be warned it does contain some spoilers, there are also some new photos of Jack Nicholson. The feature is online here You can click on the thumbnail for a slightly larger version of the cover.

Get well soon Jack

Army Archerd has mentioned in his blog that Jack Nicholson was supposed to attend a screening and party he was throwing for friends on Thursday but he was unable to go due to "a pain in the neck". He says that Jack Nicholson may have to undergo surgery next week but he does quote Jack as saying "it is something minor" so that's good to hear. I know you will all join with me in wishing him all the best.

Empire Magazine

A big thank you to Liz at the Leo fans forum for scanning the latest issue of Empire Magazine which has a great article on The Departed. Click here to see it.

One week to go!

Jack Nicholson as Frank Costello

It is one week until The Departed bows in Theaters October 6! So I have updated the Film section with a little The Departed theme and put all the video, featurettes, photos, reviews etc into the film section to make it easy to find. I've also added some caps from the HBO First Look: The Departed special. I have realised that I have already made more than 100 caps for The Departed and this film has not been released yet. Somebody stop me!!
Rolling Stone Magazine's Peter Travers has reviewed The Departed and he gave it 4 stars out of 4 stars. I am getting the impression he liked the film a lot and he loved Jack Nicholson read the review here.

To prove that I know there is a world outside of the fact The Departed is being released (honestly), let me just mention that the release date for the 25th anniversary special edition of Reds has been confirmed as October 17. The title will also get the Blu-ray treatment and the "so clear you'll think you're there" version hits shelves, November 7. Reds will be screeened at the New York Film Festival October 4, the session had been showing as sold out, but at the time of this posting, there are 8 tickets available for the 7pm session, at a cost of $20 each online here. The New York Film Festival screening of Reds will be serving as a premiere for a "mini" cinema re-release, prior to the DVD release, for more on this go here. So if you have the chance to go, grab it, as you just never know who may be in attendance and it's a great film!
Finally for more about this, including reviews for Reds and The Departed as they come in and also information on The Bucket list, Jack Nicholson's next project, keep an eye on the forum. Have a great weekend -- Sara

HBO First Look: The Departed

One of the editors who worked on THe HBO First Look: The Departed special, has put the special up on their site. A big thanks to them! They provide two options clicking on either option will launch the special in Quicktime. The larger version is very high res and it's well worth the extra bandwidth if you have a fast connection. There's lots of new scenes from the film and several of the cast talking about working with Jack Nicholson, but be warned it does contain a lot of spoilers and gives away quite a lot of the film.

Also Extratv have a video from yesterday's The Departed premiere online, watch it here, and the official site has added some new TV spots to the video area. Just over a week to go!

New Jack Nicholson photos

Jack Nicholson

Hi everyone. Jack Nicholson attended the Premiere of The Departed tonight in New York city and so we have a lot of new photos for you! It was great to see him there and looking recovered from his recent ailment. The Premiere was a star-studded affair with Mick Jagger, Lou Reed, Ronnie Wood, Bono, Edge, Jon Voight, Mira Sorvino, Lorraine Bracco, Billy Joel, Lauren Bacall and many others in attendance. USA Today ran a story on the event and Hello had a nice write-up. We will be adding more photos to the gallery as they come in, they already span 2 pages so make sure you view both Page 1 and Page 2. You can also view a video clip of the stars on the red carpet here.
The New York Observer has given The Departed a rave review you can read it online here and for more reviews check the forum.
Also MSN have compiled a great gallery of photos of Jack through the years and there are a couple of photos, including one from 1960, that I hadn't seen before, it's worth checking out here.

The Departed LA Premiere

The Departed which will premiere in New York tonight, is scheduled to hold it's Los Angeles Premiere on Oct 5 at the Director's Guild of America. Jack Nicholson on the radio!

Jack Nicholson will be a guest on Rick Dees' new show on KMVN/95.9 FM, on Monday, all the details here and more here. This is exciting for a couple of reasons 1. Jack doesn't do a lot of radio and the second article mentions a "lengthy taped interview" (sounds good!) and 2) he must be on the mend, if he is feeling up to popping into the show! So that's great news! It also increases the chance we will see our favorite actor at the premiere of his new movie, The Departed. Correction The New York Premiere is now scheduled for September 26. I had previously advised Oct 3. I am waiting on final confirmation and will advise if this changes again, sorry!

HBO - First look: The Departed

A couple of week's ago I mentioned that HBO would be screening a featurette - First Look: The Departed beginning today Sept 24th, you can check the schedule here. Jack doesn't do much TV as we all know, so I don't know how much he will feature but you might get to see some new scenes from the film! The Moviebox added a Tivo featurette for The Departed to the video page, if you missed it, it does have some new scenes from the film.

Rare Movie Stills

Jack Nicholson Movie StillsA fan of Jack's, Natalie has kindly donated some fantastic movie stills of Jack Nicholson in some of his early films. They are quite rare and we are lucky to have the chance to share them. Thanks Nat! You can see them in The Stills Gallery. Natalie has also donated some magazine articles and I have added the first, the July 2006 Sight and Sound article about The Passenger.

Housekeeping - pass the duster

I've also been doing a bit of long overdue housekeeping, so I have added the Timeout Magazines I posted in April to the extras section and I have also, finally, put all the recent photo galleries (such as The King of Marvin Gardens) in the photo section as well as a gallery for The Departed official stills. It should make it a little easier for people to find things as I had quite a lot buried in the news archive. *blush*

For the latest on The Departed

Finally, do keep an eye on the forum, several different people are adding new info about The Departed including lots of excellent reviews, interviews etc every day, often several times a day, so for the latest check The Departed board

I still have some housekeeping to do and some more exciting new things to add so stay tuned -- Sara.

Jack Nicholson Rolling Stone cover

Jack Nicholson Rolling Stone MagazineJack Nicholson is on the cover of the Sept 22 issue of Rolling Stone Magazine and looking seriously handsome! An excerpt from the interview is now online and can be viewed here. It's an interesting interview judging by the excerpt, given by the man with the great smile! The lead in reads: Jack Nicholson: A Singular Guy - Jack Nicholson gets bloody and brutal in his new movie "The Departed," but an uninhibited visit with The Great Seducer at home unleashes the real shocks.

The Departed UK Premiere cancelled?

Jack Nicholson in Hells Angels on Wheels

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I just checked the Westminster City site and The Departed's UK Premiere is no longer on the list of planned events. I did some searching and according to the AllinLondon site, the problem is that the print of the film won't be ready for the 20th of September date, and no new date has been given. We'll obviously let you know if we hear any news on this, but for now it appears cancelled.

The New York Times carried an article about The Departed written by a biographer currently working on a Jack Nicholson biography, "Five Easy Decades"

Jack Nicholson wasn't at the New York Press Conference for The Departed held yesterday, because of his recent ill-health. I was hoping to have some great press conference pictures for you this morning, and obviously we are all sorry that Jack couldn't be there. So in lieu, I have finally screen-capped Hells Angels on Wheels, that "so bad it's almost good" film from 1967, in which it has to be said, Jack Nicholson looked incredibly sexy and his talents were at least well utilised, if not in the dialogue scenes, definitely in the kissing ones, of which there were many.Check it out.
Get well soon Jack!

The Departed TV Spots

Jack Nicholson The Departed PhotoThere are 4 spots online now for The Departed, with the movie due in cinemas on October 6, just 3 weeks away, promotion is really starting to heat up. There are two spots online at Iklipz thanks to one of Jacks fans for alerting us, and another two TV spots available on the official site; from the main screen select video, from the video screen select TV Spots and you will then see two boxes that say "coming soon". This is the strange part, if you click on the "coming soon", the TV spots will play because they are not coming soon, they have in fact arrived! The Official site has been updated and the production notes have been added to the about the film section, and finally there is a new still of Jack in the photos area just click on the thumbnail at left to enlarge! Have a great weekend -- sara

Jack Nicholson home from hospital

Jack NicholsonAccess Hollywood, have just reported that Jack Nicholson has been discharged from hospital and is back at home. He had been briefly hospitalized with a salivary gland infection, view the full article here. It sounds as if he is on the mend. Get well soon, Jack!

Jack Nicholson may be unwell

There is an unconfirmed report originating from the Page Six gossip column that Jack Nicholson is in hospital with an infection. For more on this please go here Until we hear something more specific from a reliable source, let's all keep Jack in our prayers and hope that if he is unwell, he feels much better soon!

I posted on Friday that The Insider and Entertainment Tonight would have Behind the scenes previews of The Departed on Monday. They did, but as any of you who caught it know, there wasn't one single new frame of Jack, all the footage of Jack was straight from the trailer that is online, which we have all already seen. I am not totally surprised as Jack does not do TV as such, but I hoped we might see something new! For more on this, head over to the forum.

The Departed Preview & new Posters

Jack Nicholson

The soon to be released The Departed due in cinemas Oct 6, only 27 days away, will get the preview treatment on both ET and The Insider on Monday. Both shows ran Promo's Friday, promising new peeks at the film and behind the scenes. The always wonderful webmaster at the fabulous Heart of Destiny site for Leonardo Dicaprio, Marcie, has kindly made clips of the promo spots, they are both identical, view the promo here. Thanks Marcie. If you are in the States make sure you have your DVD or Video recorder ready to roll Monday. If, like me, you're camped out in another part of the global village, the clip will be online late Monday and we'll post a link to it as soon as we have it!

IGN FilmForce have an exclusive look at 2 new Movie Posters for The Departed. These will be used for billboard advertising, I believe.

Jack Nicholson Movie news

You may already know this but just in case you didn't, you can watch Jack Nicholson in the movie The Wild Ride online. It is considered a public domain film and is available free of charge at Google Video. The quality is not great but it's a good way to see it and decide if you want to get it on DVD to watch. You will need the google video recorder but it's quite fast to download. This 1960 film was Jack Nicholson's second and the 59 minute production is worth watching for the soundtrack and to see how Jack contends with some truly awful lines.

Reds will be screened at the New York Film Festival which runs from Sept 29 - Oct 14. The schedule isn't due out until Sept 10th - we'll post when and where and ticket info on that day, for anyone lucky enough to be able to go. The release date for the 25th Anniversary edition, Region 1 DVD seems to have been moved back 1 week, from October the 3rd to the 10th, according to the pre-order info on Amazon.

HBO will be screening a 13 minute special "HBO: First Look - The Departed" starting on Sept 24th and then repeating it regularly through to October 18th. The First Look programs usually have some behind the scene footage and cast interviews. Click here to see the schedule make sure you set your DVD or video recorder.

Finally from The New York Daily News
Quick & Dirty

Sallie ToussaintJACK ATTACK: For every lady who's ever wanted to know what it's like to be in a threesome with Jack Nicholson, former Miss USA Sallie Toussaint (pictured left) is dishing about her love scenes with Nicholson in the upcoming Martin Scorsese movie "The Departed." Toussaint tells Steppin' Out mag's Chaunce Hayden: "He kept giving me instructions. He's very intense! During the threesome, we would talk about games guys play. … I asked Jack if older guys play as many games as younger guys. And he said, 'Actually, sometimes older guys don't play any games at all.' We kept having little conversations like that. He likes to talk about life and health a lot. He's really an intense man. He kept telling me how beautiful he thought I was." She went on, "Martin Scorsese is so elegant and creative that it wasn't uncomfortable to film at all. It was actually kind of fun. … The other girl in the threesome was very nice, and she plays his main girlfriend. I play the friend who joins them in bed. All I'll say about the scene is that everybody who sees it is going to be shocked! A lot of people are going to get aroused watching us together! I was very aroused in the scene. I think it was Jack Nicholson's most erotic scene of his career."

Asked if Jack appears naked, she says: "What do you think? I mean, why would he be wearing a bathing suit in the bedroom?"

And if Jack is looking for love, Toussaint said: "He's not an ugly man. If we had chemistry, I could definitely be with him in real life."
We will all have to wait and see how much of these "infamous" sex scenes make the final cut.

Jack Nicholson Backgrounds

I took a look back over the month and realised every single news item bar one, was about The Departed! As excited as we are to see this movie which is only 36 days away from release *woot* I thought it was time for something completely different! So here are 2 wallpapers you can set as backgrounds. I have made 800, 1024 and 1280 resolutions. The first is from The Last Detail and is made from a cell from the original film. The second uses one of the original publicity shots for Jack's debut film The Cry Baby Killer. Both are extremely minimalist, not so much by design as by limitation! I'm just not artistic folks! I like to have a plain background, though, as then I can still see my icons! Just select uour resolution. Have a great weekend -- Sara
