The Bucket List update

Jack Nicholson and Rob ReinerJack Nicholson and movie director Rob Reiner, took in a Lakers game together over the weekend. They have worked together before on A Few Good Men and are currently collaborating on The Bucket List along with Morgan Freeman. Rob Reiner gave an interview recently in which he fleshed out the movies plot you can view the details with mild spoilers here. The story-line sounds really interesting. Sean Hayes who is perhaps best known for his role as Jack on Will and Grace has been cast in a supporting role in The Bucket list. He has great comic timing and is just another reason why we are looking forward to this! The movie as I previously posted began filming last month. Here is a comment that an actor/extra posted on his blog
My week started on Wednesday on the movie The Bucket List starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. All I have to say is that Jack Nicholson is the coolest mofo on the planet. Seriously. Morgan Freeman wasn't there that day. Jack was talking with all of us and joking around. He is really funny, amazingly talented and just really cool. He is exactly the way I want to be when I make it to the big time. I want to be cool, approachable and I want people to think I'm a genuinely nice guy. I don't want to be mean and cold in real life and then go on talk shows and be all smiley and phoney like a lot of the actors...
Here is a photo from the set of the film, courtesy of People.com which has been on the net for about 6 weeks! I don't know how I missed it, sorry. Still, in the spirit of "better late than never", here it is along with a photo of Jack posing for the camera at the Lakers game on Sunday!

Jack Nicholson was voted world's sexiest older male star! He beat out Sean Connery, Robert Redford and Clint Eatwood to take the crown! That should make him smile! Story here. Thanks to moviebuff for the heads up! -- Sara

Overlooked.

Jack Nicholson in The Departed

Well, if like me at 7.30am ET you were feeling a little disappointed to find that Jack Nicholson had been overlooked for an Oscar nomination, then this quote from Roeper might be a small consolation
As far as the acting categories go, Jack Nicholson has been so good for so long, and he's been nominated so many times, that the academy overlooked his strongest, darkest and most authentic performance in years, in "The Departed." He was ferocious and unforgettable
Roeper has it so right but sadly the Academy got it so wrong. I'm glad he said what he said as at 7.30am my words were mostly 4 letters in length. If you want to have your say on this or anything else, you can always head into the forum

The Departed did receive 5 nominations - Best Picture, Best Director, Best adapted screenplay, Best editing and a Best Supporting Actor Nod for Mark Wahlberg.

Warner Bros have announced today that the film will be re-released, opening in 1300 US cinemas on January 26th to give those who haven't seen it, including Academy members, the chance to see the film as intended on the big screen. more details here

The Departed trilogy?

Mark Wahlberg has revealed in an interview with MTV that Martin Scorsese is working on a sequel to The Departed and that Scorsese is in talks with Robert De Niro for the film. Wahlberg indicated he would return and also suggested that there could well be a prequel that would bring "all the boys", including Jack Nicholson, back for another film together. The Departed script was adapted from a script that the Hong Kong Film Infenal Affairs was based upon, and the success of that film resulted in a trilogy of films being produced. Of course at this stage there is no way of knowing for certain whether Jack Nicholson would or wouldn't be involved, but it's one to keep your eye on, more details here.

Commiserations to any fans in China, The Departed has been banned and won't be shown there. No reason other than "it's inappropriate", was given.

Jack and Lorraine do the Globes

Jack and Lorraine NicholsonJack Nicholson seemed to be enjoying his role as proud father every inch as much as his role as movie star at tonight's Golden Globes. Lorraine Nicholson who was this years Miss Golden Globe sparkled in a beautiful dress and showed the same charisma and joie de vivre that have made her pops a legend. Lorraine is a lucky girl to have inherited that million watt smile. You can view a gallery of photos of Jack Nicholson and his daughter at the ceremony and also photos of Lorraine Nicholson from January 13, when she attended the Golden Globe Suites.
Jack was nominated for a Golden Globe in the best supporting actor in a motion picture catergory but the honors went to Eddie Murphy. The Departed was nominated for 6 awards and won for Best Director, which Martin Scorsese richly deserved. He thanked Jack Nicholson, saying it was an honor and inspiration to have worked with him. Nice. If there was an award for most mentions in other people's thank you speeches Jack would have won that! Complete list of winners here. -- Sara

Jack Nicholson receives BAFTA nom

Jack Nicholson has been nominated for a Best Supporting Actor BAFTA Award. The BAFTA's (British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards) are also known as the British Oscars. Jack's inclusion is good news for his chances of receiving an Oscar nomination, as he was most inexplicably overlooked by the Screen Actors Guild - many suspect that this oversight was bought about by some campain confusion created by Warner Bros which led to Leo Dicaprio being included in the Supporting Actor catergory. The BAFTA's awards ceremony will be held Feb 11, more details here.

This years Entertainment Weekly Oscar issue is now out and they are predicting a nomination for Jack - let's hope there crystal ball is in fine form!

There is a clip from 1978 of Jack Nicholson driving a hydrogen car over at ecorazzi, and talking about the environmental benefits, unfortunately as we now know in 2007, the car never took off!

Finally, the Broadcast Film Critics Awards were held this evening and The Departed won for Best Picture! List of winners

Hope you're having a great weekend - see you back here after the Golden Globes! Keep those fingers crossed!
