#1 The Shining

Today's clip is from one of Jack Nicholson's most famous movies The Shining. Although this week's clips have been part of a birthday tribute, I confess I have had an ulterior motive in slecting the clips I have and that was simply to remind all fans of Jack nicholson's incredible range. I know anyone who has taken the time to watch these clips will have seen Jack inhabit a range of very different roles. In all of these roles, Jack's portrayal is so realistic, yet effortless that it is easy to assume that he is "not acting" at all. I think that perhaps explains a common misconception amongst some people who are not familiar with his considerable body of work, that being the impression that Jack is just Jack. It is perhaps the ultimate compliment but it is also most decidedly untrue. Jack Nicholson is a true artist a dedicated craftsman who puts together a role so seamlessly that you do not see where it begins and he ends but as these clips illustrate their are distinctly different personalities being bought to life and the exceptional quality of the work should be acknowledged and respected. So this is my birthday tribute, a simple salute to the man's considerable range and talent. I'll be back tomorrow to post Jack Nicholson's Birthday update! -- Sara

#2 Friday Funny!

Happy Friday! Today's clip is from the 1960 movie Little Shop of Horrors, a Roger Corman cheapie! The movie was shot in just three days and features a piece of comic genius from a young Jack Nicholson as Wilbur Force - masochist extraodinaire!

Today's clip is from the 1982 movie The Border which also co-starred Harvey Keitel and Valerie Perrine who are both seen in this excerpt.

Rolling Stone Magazine is also celebrating a mile stone this week as the publication marks its 40th anniversary. The commemorative issue will hit newstands tomorrow and will include musings from Jack Nicholson amongst others. I'll post more details when I have them. Source

To make up for missing a day - here's a second clip for today featuring the very famous "Hold it between your knees" scene from Five Easy Pieces

#5 & #4 Reds

A thousand apologies. I was unable to post yesterday as my ISP went down during the time I can be online! Shock Horror! The withdrawal was terrible.

Today, I'm posting a clip from Reds featuring Jack Nicholson as the american playwright Eugene O'Neill and Diane Keaton as Louise Bryant. Eugene O'Neill's daughter Oona sent Jack Nicholson a letter after seeing his on-screen portrayal of her father, saying that he had allowed her to better know and understand her father and that it had enabled her to make her peace with him. Jack Nicholson said it was the best compliment on a movie role that he ever received.

#7: The Missouri Breaks

Let the countdown begin as they say! In 7 days Jack Nicholson, movie star and hollywood legend will be 70. Over the next week we'll be posting various clips from some of his movies (including some of the less well known ones) and magazine features from his career. Let's start with two scenes from his 1976 movie, The Missouri Breaks, a quirky western which although not well-received in its day, features a fine performance from Jack Nicholson and some great comedic moments. In the first scene look out for Randy Quaid who also co-starred with Jack in The Last Detail.

Jack Nicholson's Birthday special

jack nicholson's birthday

Just wanted to let you all know that we will be running a special week long celebration ahead of Jack Nicholson's 70th birthday on April 22nd. Starting April 15, we will begin our "7 days until Jack's 70th" festival with clips of favorite moments from his movies and also some new vintage photos and magazine scans. So remember to check back in during the week and also on the big day!

Jack Nicholson was courtside at the Lakers game Thursday night along with good friends Billy Crystal and James Brooks (writer and director of As Good as it Gets and Terms of Endearment amongst others) it would be absolutely wonderful if these three geniuses would work together on a movie. Here are a few photos, unfortunately I could find any larger ones online but I'll keep an eye out -- Sara

Nicholson news!

Jack Nicholson's daughter Lorraine has a small voice part as Katie in the 3D animated movie, Fly me to the moon, due out later this year. The website for the film including the teaser are now online and the movie looks like it will be a lot of fun and a big hit with kids!

There is a "fake" radio interview with Jack Nicholson doing the rounds at the moment. Accept no imitations! Jack Nicholson's last genuine radio interview was last October when he was on the Rick Dees show here's an excerpt.

Happy Easter everyone!
